Red Avul Upma


Red Avul Upma recipe can be used for Breakfast / Dinner.
It can be served with Yogurt / pickle / coconut chutney.

Quantity used below can serve : 2 people

Ingredients :

Oil - 1 tbsp
Mustard - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - few
Channa dhal - 1 tbsp
Onion - 1 (medium sized) chopped
Green chilli - 1 slitted
Red thick avul - 250 gm
Water - 50 ml
Salt - as required
Coriander leaves - as required
Grated coconut (fresh/packed) - 2 tbsp

Method :

1. Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan. Add mustard and curry leaves. Wait for it to splutter.



2. Add channa dhal and fry for 2 mins on medium flame.



3. Add onion and green chilli. Fry till the onion turns brown in colour.


4. Immerse the red thick avul in water for 5 mins. Drain the water and add it into the pan.
    
   
4. Add 50 ml of water and mix well.
    Add salt to it and cover the pan with a lid. Allow it to cook for 8 mins on medium flame.


5. Add the coriander leaves and grated coconut finally.
    Serve with yogurt / pickle /  Coconut chutney (click for recipe)
