Masal vada (Parupu Vada)


Masal Vada can be prepared for an evening snack or during festive season.

Quantity used below can make 20 medium sized Vada

Ingredients :

Channa dhal - 200 gm
Fennel - 2 tsp
Onion - 2 medium (chopped)
Green chilli - 3 nos (chopped)
Ginger - 1 inch piece (chopped)

Method :

1. Soak the channa dhal in water for 2 hours. Later drain the water.

  



2. Add the dhal to a blender and blend it coarsely without adding water.




3. Add fennel, chopped onion, green chillies, ginger to the blender and blend adding very little water.
    (The less water you use while blending, the less oil will be absorbed by the Vada while frying)


          



4. Transfer the dough from the blender to a bowl.

                  



5. Take small portions of the dough and flatten it into medium size Vada.





6. Heat oil in a kadai.  Drop the flattened vadas in hot oil.



7. Fry till the vadas turn brown in colour.




6. Masal Vada can be served without any side dish / coconut chutney if preferred.
