Thuthuvalai kuzhambu


Thuthuvalai kuzhambu can be used as a lunch recipe.
It can be served as a gravy for white rice.

Quantity used below can serve : 4 people

Ingredients :

Oil - 2 tbsp
Mustard - 2 tsp
Black pepper - 1.5 tsp
Dry ginger - 2 small pieces
Garlic - 10 pods
Onion - 1 (medium size) chopped
Tomato - 1 (small size) chopped
Tamarind - size of a gooseberry
Thuthuvalai powder - 3 tsp / fresh thuthuvalai leaves
Asafoetida - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Chilli powder - 1 tsp
Water

Method :

1. Gather all the ingredients required.

            

2. Heat oil in a pan, add 1 tsp of mustard and wait to splutter.

                    

3. Add pepper to the pan and fry for few minutes.



4. Add dry ginger and fry well.


5. Add garlic pods to the pan and fry for few minutes.


6. Blend the fried spices in a blender.


7. In the same pan, using the oil retained earlier, add 1 tsp of mustard and wait to splutter.



8. Add chopped onion and fry for few minutes till it turns brown in colour.


9. Add chopped tomato and fry for few minutes.




10. Add asafoetida to the pan and mix well.


11. Add turmeric powder,chilli powder and thuthuvalai powder to the pan and mix well.


                            


  

12. Prepare tamarind water (out of the mentioned tamarind quantity)
      Add it to the pan with required quantity of water and mix well.




13. Allow it to boil.



14. Switch off the flame when the oil floats on the top. Serve hot with rice.
