Ven pongal


Ven Pongal can be served for breakfast along with sambhar / coconut chutney.

Quantity used below can serve : 2 people 

Ingredients :

Ghee - 2 tsp
Peppercorns - 2 tsp
Rice - 1 cup
Moong dhal - 1/2 cup
Salt - as required
Water - 4 cups

To temper :
Ghee - 4 tsp
Oil - 2 tsp
Cumin - 2 tsp
Green chilli - 2 (chopped)
Curry leaves - few
Cashews - as per choice
Ginger - 1/2 inch piece (chopped finely)


Method :

1. Prepare all the required ingredients - cumin, curry leaves, chopped green chilli and chopped 
    ginger. Soak rice and dhal in water for 30 minutes.

                  

   

2. Heat 2 tsp of ghee in a pressure cooker. Add rice,dhal,salt and peppercorns.
    Allow it to boil (4 whistles) 





4. In a pan, heat 4 tsp of ghee and 2 tsp of oil. Add cumin, cashews,curry leaves, green chilli and
    chopped ginger. Fry till raw smell goes.



5. Add the cooked rice and dhal mixture to the pan and mix well to combine.




6. Serve with sambhar and coconut chutney.
